"I belive that science has great beauty. A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician; he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairy tales"
—Marie Curie
I remember that when I was in 7th grade of primary school, my chemestry teacher told us about Marie Curie, my teacher spoke with great pride, as reflected in her...from that day I have not stopped admiring this great woman.
Marie Slodowska (her name before marrying Pierre Curie) was born in Poland in 1867, there, at that time women were forbidden to go to university, so despite everything she went to study in France. There, she got a degree in physics and mathematics.
Maire was looking for an interesnting topic for her doctoral thesis, based on the discovery of Bequerel: natural radioactivity, that how it went she descovered 2 new chemical elements: polonium (that was called like that his native country) and radium. For this and many other investigations, she was the first woman to win two Nobel prizes, of physics and mathematics.
I wonder, how not to admire this remarkable scientist, who despite born in a macho country, living with scarce economic resources, and having a daughter , never left the investigation aside, she was a woman passionate about science. she simply dedicated her life to science.
Finally she died of aplastic anemia, as a result of the radiation to which she was exposed in her work.
she is one of the people that I admire most is simply awesome.
